For every Internet Marketer, there exists that defining moment, that thought when the significance of something you are searching or reading suddenly hits you and you really start asking yourself if it’s possible to set yourself up with an online business. After you have completed your first year, it is so easy to look back and see where most mistakes were made and, with most marketers, there is one big problem. Purely and simply, INFORMATION OVERLOAD. What I wouldn’t have given back for a blogging for beginners guide. It doesn’t matter how determined you are, something always gets in the way of finishing anything in one go. Before you know it, you have clicked on some link that reads rather well; that, in turn, has links to other tutorials or reading matter, but you suddenly realise that your original piece has disappeared and you probably cannot even remember what it’s about anyway.

Once you start subscribing, the emails begin piling up with every one promising the untold riches that you will make by following this course or that course. For whatever reason, I was terrified of unsubscribing in case this course was the one that was going to help me succeed.

I remember sitting down in a morning with an honest-to-goodness plan and hours later I would get up for a break yet couldn’t even say what I had done and, most of the time, it seemed I hadn’t done anything at all. So much to learn and no one, it felt, to put me on the right path of an honest to goodness blogging for beginners guide . Every foot forward seemed to lead to ten paces backwards. Every day I was faced with ‘What the hell does that mean?’ ‘How do I do that?’ ‘Where can I find the answer to that?’ And every day seemed to bring on another tear-your-hair-out moment because I did not understand the language let alone how to do it…HTML, CSS, Links, Graphics, etc, etc. The day I ventured into this, all I could do was email and upload pictures. So, if you are at this stage, maybe the following tips can help. Sort out a plan of action and stick to it – and FOCUS on one thing at a time.

a) – Unsubscribe from everyone now, today, unless you have fallen lucky with some tutorials that are really helping you.

b) – Stop reading those promises of riches. They DO NOT exist, there is no such thing as a get-rich-quick scheme. Honest.

c) – Join Sites such as Squidoo, HubPages and Blogger. Each one will be a lesson learned just in finding your way around and getting a blog live. If you’re not sure what to write about, concentrate on a hobby you have (do you like older style classic films, do you like swimming or hiking?); whatever it is, write about it. Use the modules in Squidoo and HubPages to promote books, DVDs and anything else that is relevant to what you are writing about.

d) – Forget about making money right now and get used to writing again, especially if it’s been a while since you left school. Writing grammatically correct is very important. Within the Squidoo community, you will find absolutely everything you need to learn. I wish I had known just what was available when I joined, but, to be honest, when you sign up anywhere it is very hard to look upon it as a community when all you are gazing at is a screen. Just type in what you need to learn and you will be presented with a choice. In the near future I am going to be adding links to some great free tutorials so don’t forget to bookmark me. This is a brand new site and it takes a little time getting everything sorted.

e) – HTML, Links, Fonts and Font Sizes, Colours, Aligning Images, Resizing Images, Coloured Headlines and Bullet Points are but a few of the things you need to master. Keyword Research and Search Engine Optimisation are topics you MUST study correctly. Forget about making money and focus on learning all these subjects, one at a time. Practise incorporating what you have learned into what you’re writing until it becomes second nature. If there is something you are not understanding, get on the Squidoo forum and ASK. I cannot stress enough the amount of help offered to learners. Squidoo has its quirks and rules, but is a super starter to get you up and running.

f) – Squidoo and HubPages will bring in some revenue in payment for adverts shown on your blog so open up a Paypal account for yourself; don’t give up your day job just yet, however.

Whatever you do, DON’T buy a course until you have learned all the basics. All that will happen is you won’t be able to follow the course. Even if there is a course that tells you you don’t need any experience, believe me you do. These basics are part of the must-do learning curve that will become part of your everyday marketing if you want to set yourself up with an online business.

There is no such thing as a get-rich-quick scheme and the ones that do exist belong with the con merchants. Setting up an online blog and business is damned hard work and can be time-consuming. Everyone goes through the same learning process and these days, thankfully, people are willing to offer help a little more without the price tag.
